John Ratcliffe, nominated by Donald Trump for the post of director of the Central Intelligence Agency, believes that due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, the United States risks entering into a conflict with a “nuclear country”.

Details: In his introductory speech, Ratcliffe focused on describing the global security situation for the United States and mentioned, in particular, the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine.

“The Russian-Ukrainian war continues, spreading devastation and increasing the risk for the US to be drawn into a conflict with a nuclear-armed country,” he said, presumably referring to Russia.

While listing the threats to US national security, Trump’s nominee to head the CIA also mentioned China’s desire for global dominance, transnational crime, the actions of Iran and North Korea, and the situation in the Middle East.

“Increasing coordination among America’s adversaries and adversaries threatens to exacerbate the threats each of them individually poses to us, and numerous terrorist groups and other non-state actors, some of which have even crossed our southern border, continue to pose an ongoing threat to our people.” Ratcliff stated.

It should be noted that the current director of the Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, who resigned amid the arrival of the Trump administration, called for more skepticism towards the Kremlin’s nuclear threats.

During the election campaign, Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine in “24 hours” before taking office, but his advisers privately acknowledged the unrealistic nature of such a plan.
