Details: Trump noted that “we have an agreement on hostages in the Middle East.”
“They will be released soon. Thank you,” he wrote. Trump became the first leader to confirm the achievement of the agreement.
A few minutes earlier, the American media, citing sources, reported that Israel and Hamas agreed on the cessation of hostilities in Gaza and the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
In particular, the CNN channel reported that, according to the agreement, which has not yet been officially announced, Hamas and its affiliated militant groups are expected to release 33 hostages captured in Israel during the October 7, 2023 attacks. In return, Israel will release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
Confirmation of the deal is expected to allow Palestinian civilians to return to northern Gaza and a massive influx of humanitarian aid to the sector, where residents have long faced dire humanitarian conditions.
There should also be a ceasefire, information about this has not yet been officially released.
We will remind, on Saturday the future representative of Trump regarding the Middle East arrived in Israel to achieve an agreement on the release of hostages and a cease-fire in Gaza.
Representatives of the Biden administration, with whom the Trump team maintained contacts, officially participated in the negotiations regarding the agreement.
Trump said he wanted to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and an agreement to release the hostages before taking office on January 20, 2025.
