Russia planned “acts of aerial terror” around the world – Tusk

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk accused Russia of planning “acts of aerial terror” against airlines around the world. The Polish leader said this at a press conference in Warsaw together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on January 15.

“I will not go into details, I can only confirm the validity of fears that Russia was planning acts of aerial terror not only against Poland, but also against airlines around the world,” Tusk said.

In the summer of 2024, a series of fires occurred at the warehouses of the international freight forwarding company DHL in Great Britain, Germany and Poland. The Wall Street Journal cited Western security officials who linked the fires to a test of a suspected Russian operation aimed at arson on cargo or passenger planes bound for North America.

Russia denies involvement in these incidents, and Tusk did not mention them specifically.

In November 2024, the Polish prosecutor’s office said that Russian special services were probably behind the explosions of parcels in courier warehouses across Europe. According to intelligence services, the parcels were part of a plot that ultimately aimed to detonate explosions on cargo flights bound for the United States and Canada.
