Actors Will Sharpe and Mia McKenna Bruce are revealing the coveted shortlists at 12 p.m. GMT (4 a.m. PT) in a livestream from the U.K. Academy’s headquarters at 195 Piccadilly in the British capital.
Earlier this month, the longlists for each category — the results of the first round of voting for the honors — were confirmed. They were led by Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical Emilia Perez (15), including leading actress and supporting actress mentions for Karla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez. Edward Berger’s Conclave followed with 14 nods, including leading actor and supporting actor for Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci, respectively.
After that, it was a three-way tie between Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance (11). Sean Baker’s Anora is honored with nine mentions on the longlists, including for lead star Mikey Madison. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are included for their roles in Jon M. Chu’s Wicked, and Timothée Chalamet is among the leading actor list for his performance in A Complete Unknown.
The final winners will be presented with their awards at the 78th BAFTA film awards ceremony, set to take place Sunday, Feb. 16, at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Scottish star David Tennant (Doctor Who, Inside Man) will host for the second year in a row.
In the U.K., BBC One and BBC streamer iPlayer will show the ceremony. Streamer BritBox International will show the ceremony in the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and South Africa.
Last year, the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards winners Christopher Nolan’s biographical epic Oppenheimer with seven wins in total. Yorgos Lanthimos’ black-comedy science fantasy Poor Things, starring Emma Stone, won five.
