Absolute world champion in the second lightest weight Naoya Inoue (28–0, 25 KOs) learned about the name of the next opponent two weeks before the match.

Initially, the Japanese “Monster” was supposed to enter the ring against the mandatory challenger Sam Goodman (19-0, 8 KOs), but the Australian was injured twice and will miss the next six months due to injuries.

The day before, it became known that Inoue’s opponent will be South Korean boxer Ye Jun Kim (21-2-2, 13 KOs), who is ranked 11th in the WBO ranking. The match will take place on January 24 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo (Japan).

Inoue defeated Australian TJ Dohaney in his last fight – he won by knockout in the seventh round on September 3 last year. Jun Kim entered the ring on May 9, 2024, when in the fifth round he defeated Rakesh Lohab of Thailand early.
