“In Russia, the non-existent “Belgorod People’s Republic” (“BNR”) and “Kursk People’s Republic” (“PRC”) were added to the list of “terrorist” organizations.”, — write: www.ukrinform.ua
As the publication writes, the Russian media “Fonar” drew attention to such an entry in the FSB register. According to the publication, such a decision was adopted by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation on November 22, 2024.
On the website of the Russian special service, it is stated that “BNR” is a structural subdivision of the international organization “Forum of Free States of Post-Russia”, banned in Russia.
The Belgorod region of the Russian Federation was jokingly called the “Belgorod People’s Republic” by analogy with the so-called “DPR” and “LPR”, gang formations formed in the occupied territories of Ukraine. In early April 2022, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, used this name when commenting on the explosions at the oil depot in Belgorod. Later, the joke about “BNR” turned into a popular Internet meme.

Last year in October, people who call themselves “partisans of the Belgorod People’s Republic” organized an anti-war rally in Belgorod. They handed out leaflets to volunteers urging them to join the military, which is participating in the war against Ukraine. However, in reality, the QR code on them led to a website with a list of the dead soldiers of the Russian Federation.
As Ukrinform reported, in August of last year, the Supreme Court of Russia recognized the “Anti-Russian separatist movement” and “its structural subdivisions” as an extremist organization at the request of the country’s Ministry of Justice. At the same time, a movement with such a name does not exist in reality.
