President Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with the Minister of Defense of Germany Boris Pistorius, who arrived in Ukraine for the fourth time on a visit.
The head of state thanked the Federal Republic of Germany for helping our country, all Ukrainian men and women, from the very beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion and contributing to saving lives and protecting the whole of Europe. The President noted that the total amount of support provided by Germany is about 16% of all aid received by Ukraine from partners.
“We are especially grateful for the fact that in difficult moments of blackouts and defense of the sky, Germany made one of the biggest contributions to the protection of the Ukrainian sky, to the construction of the newest Ukrainian air defense system. We are grateful for the air defense systems Patriot, IRIS-T, certainly grateful for Gepard, which protected our critical infrastructure and continue to do so,” Volodymyr Zelenskyi said.
Separately, the President also thanked for joint leadership with the United States of America in the Rammstein format. It is important that this format continues to work.
The key topics discussed during the meeting are military support to Ukraine, strengthening of air defense, supply of ammunition and purchase of Ukrainian weapons and equipment based on the Danish model. These are steps that can strengthen the position of Ukraine and force Russia to establish a just and lasting peace. They also discussed the prospects of expanding joint projects for the production and repair of weapons and equipment in Ukraine.
Boris Pistorius noted that Germany has already ordered 54 new RCH 155 self-propelled artillery installations for Ukraine.
“I think they will come as soon as possible, because it is really a very effective and mobile system that will help you a lot in your fight, which is not over yet,” the minister said.
He also spoke about the results of yesterday’s meeting of the Group of 5 in Warsaw – the defense ministers of Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy and Poland, who united in a new negotiation format to strengthen European security and strengthen support for Ukraine.
