Political expert Taras Zagorodnii told on Radio NV whether Ramstein’s work will change with the arrival of the new US President Donald Trump and what format of support for Ukraine Republicans can choose.
“If we talk about the administration [республіканців]a more understandable Lend-Lease format, which, by the way, they initiated… The first Lend-Lease was initiated back on January 19, 2022, long before the invasion, which was not accepted. Then it was initiated again, again the Republicans did it. This is a more understandable topic for them: there is a lend-lease, weapons are transferred,” said Zagorodniy.
He told whether it could be implemented:
Peace in Ukraine in exchange for big money. The Biden administration offered the Trump team a way to bring Putin to the negotiating table – CNN
“It is possible that there will be a short pause now. They will try to negotiate with the Russians. They will beat their heads against the wall after listening [російського диктатора Володимира] Putin about his adventures with the Pechenegs and Rurikovich a thousand years ago. They will understand that the patient is absolutely hopeless and will proceed to the fact that there should be an increase in aid to Ukraine.”
As for the Rammstein format, it is possible that it may undergo changes, Zagorodny believes, because a lot has changed since its creation:
“Countries, for example, of Northern Europe, realizing that we are in the same boat, switched to direct financing of Ukrainian arms production. The same Denmark invested, for example, in the production of Bohdan. Ukraine has its own production of weapons, we see concrete results. Ukrainians are simply used to waking up every day [з новинами]: it flew in there, it flew in there, and they are already asking, why is there so little?”.
He emphasized that in general it is necessary to understand how the West is built, which helps those who are strong:
“That’s why we should focus first of all on ourselves – not on Ramstein, but on the production of our own weapons, to allow exports to our manufacturers, so that they bring money into the country, and increase the possibilities of their own production. And then it doesn’t matter what it will be [формат підтримки]. Well, it won’t be Rammstein, maybe it will be called something else. Maybe, in general, the Americans will move to the plan [колишнього держсекретаря США Майка] Pompeo, I think this is a very realistic scenario: “Give Ukraine a lend-lease for 500 billion, let it defend itself and generally negotiate with Russia, leaving the line as early as February 24, 2022.”
Umerov stated that the next Rammstein may take place in February: We want the US to stay and strengthen its presence
On May 9, 2022, US President Joe Biden signed the Lend-Lease Law for Ukraine. It made it possible to speed up the supply of weapons, transport, food and aid to Ukraine from the USA.
The text of the law stated that the President of the United States “extended powers are granted to conclude contracts with the government of Ukraine on the provision of defense equipment for the protection of the civilian population in Ukraine against Russian military invasion and for other purposes.
However, Kyiv and Washington have not concluded the relevant agreements, which would have spelled out all the necessary conditions and volumes of military aid. Also, this law was only valid for the 2022 and 2023 fiscal years in the US.
Since October 2023, the American Lend-Lease law for Ukraine has become invalid. The US government should have extended it to 2024, but it never did.
