Most Ukrainians want to see the country as a member of the European Union and NATO, but joining the defense alliance is currently a higher priority.
These are the results of a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).
According to the study, 90% of citizens support Ukraine’s membership in the EU, and 84% – in NATO. In the event of a referendum on joining both unions, 68% of Ukrainians declared their readiness to vote yes in both cases. 9% would oppose membership in the EU, and 10% in NATO.
Despite general support, more Ukrainians consider joining NATO (46%) than joining the EU (22%) a priority. Sociologists explain this by the desire of citizens to ensure reliable security guarantees.
In addition, the survey noted an increasing trend in the number of those who do not consider membership in any of the unions a priority. In 2023, there were 12% of them, and by the end of 2024, their share increased to 22%. At the same time, the number of those who choose NATO as a priority decreased: from 54% to 46%. As for the EU, the figures are almost unchanged (24% in 2023 vs. 22% in 2024).
Another poll showed that in December 2024, 52% of Ukrainians trusted President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, 39% did not. The remaining 9% answered that they could not decide on their attitude.
Recently, the Rakuten Viber team found out whether Ukrainians would donate to the Armed Forces and their friends who are serving. 63% of respondents continue to donate in 2024, another 27% helped in other ways — the same figures were at the end of 2023. More than half of Ukrainians learn about the fees from friends and acquaintances.
Support for European integration of Ukraine has also reached a record level, according to the latest survey.
