The Minister of Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin reported that 30,000 mines that did not meet critical requirements were removed from the front. Ammunition production standards have been improved and quality control has been strengthened.

Details: The Minister reported that a number of problems were found in the seized batch of mines, including:

  • the discrepancy in the diameter of the ammunition, which did not allow powder gases to push out the mine, as they passed by it between the mine and the mortar barrel;
  • flying away of a part of the mine structure;
  • non-conditionality of the gunpowder, i.e. the gunpowder did not explode with the required force.

Smetanin noted that all mine manufacturers now check 100% of the external geometric parameters of ammunition to ensure exact caliber matching.

In addition, hermetically sealed powder packaging was implemented, which can withstand up to 10 hours in water. According to Smetanin, such packaging will now be used both for mines and for other ammunition. The gunpowder from the recovered batch will be dried and reused.

Smetanin’s direct speech: “The new packaging also ensures 10 years of ammunition storage in warehouses. The charges themselves, after opening, can be stored for 12 hours in the open air, because additional varnishing of the charge has been added. That is, the mine comes with a new detonator, with a modified main charge and a check of all geometric parameters.”

Details: It is reported that the manufacturer replaces all defective mines at his own expense. Currently, ammunition production continues as usual: more than 32,000 mines have already been delivered.

Soviet detonators were also replaced with modern ones in the mines.

Literally: “According to Smetanin, last year about half of the mines on the front were Ukrainian-made. In 2025, it is planned to produce “the maximum amount of ammunition, close to the entire need”. In general, this year, it is planned to produce millions of mortar rounds and other ammunition, Smetanin added.”
