The new law on religious organizations: what awaits the UOC and ROC in Ukraine

The new law on religious organizations: what awaits the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine. The law does not prohibit the UOC, but requires it to sever ties with the Russian Orthodox Church within 9 months.”, — write on: unn.ua

The law on the prohibition of religious organizations connected with the Russian Federation is legitimate and pursues the goal of preventing the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church, which is an accomplice in crimes against humanity, on the territory of Ukraine.

This was stated by the head of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience, Viktor Yelenskyi, writes UNN.

Details

This law is called the law on banning UPC, this is not true. It does not prohibit the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, it prohibits the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as an ideological continuation of the aggressive regime of the Russian Federation as an accomplice in crimes against humanity. It was a resolution of the General Assembly of the Council of Europe. The fact that the UOC or any other religious organization on the territory of Ukraine is prohibited there is certainly not in question

Yelenskyi explained that the law refers to religious organizations affiliated to the Russian Orthodox Church and their obligation to disassociate.

This law is legitimate because it pursues a legitimate goal — preventing the Russian Orthodox Church from entering the territory of Ukraine, which has clearly declared that it is not just an accomplice in the war, but a direct participant, which sends its chaplains here with weapons, creates its own private military campaigns, which has clearly declared aimed at the destruction of Ukrainian statehood, culture, and identity. And in this form, it is impossible to imagine the very possibility of its activity on the territory of Ukraine

We will remind

The President of Ukraine signed a law banning the activities of religious organizations associated with Russia. The law will enter into force in 30 days, and the UOC MP communities will have 9 months to sever ties with the Russian Orthodox Church.
