Experts from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) confirmed that 2024 was the hottest year on record.

As reported by Ukrinform with reference to the WMO report, the average annual temperature last year was 1.55 degrees Celsius higher than in the pre-industrial era.

“We have seen extreme temperatures on land, sea surface, extreme heat in the ocean, accompanied by extreme weather that has affected many countries around the world, destroying lives, livelihoods, hopes and dreams,” WMO spokeswoman Claire Nullis said.

According to her, the global consequences of climate change are currently being observed, in particular, sea glaciers are melting.

According to the UN press service, Secretary-General António Guterres called the WMO findings further evidence of global warming and called on all governments to adopt new national climate action plans this year to limit the rise in global temperatures to 1.5°C and support the most vulnerable countries that face devastating climate consequences.

“There is still time to avoid the worst climate catastrophe. But leaders must act now,” he said.
