The President of Slovakia refused to visit Ukraine

The President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, refuses to go on an official visit to Kyiv due to the fact that Ukraine stopped supplying gas to his country. He stated this on STVR.

“Under these circumstances, my trip to Ukraine is currently out of the question. If I have to go there just to take a picture, and they tell me that not a single drop of oil and gas will go to Slovakia, then I really shouldn’t go there. Let no one take offense at me,” he said.

Ukraine stopped the transportation of Russian natural gas through its territory on January 1 at 07:00 “in the interests of national security”.

The main European importers of Russian gas, Slovakia and Austria, have already secured alternative supply routes, although Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has declared “dramatic consequences” for the entire European Union, demanding the resumption of transit. The Slovak prime minister did not rule out retaliatory measures.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in his turn assumed that Robert Fitso, who was received by Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, “received an order to open a second energy front against Ukraine.”
