Details: Almost all 596 delegates voted for Scholz as chancellor by show of hands. There were five people against.

Scholz said that he will do everything possible to “surprise those who think they already know how everything will end.”

“Dear comrades: We will win. Thank you very much!” – promised Scholz, whose political strength is third in the polls a month and a half before the elections.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), whose chancellor candidate is Friedrich Merz, is leading in the polls.

“If we make the wrong return in Germany on February 23, we will wake up in another country the next morning. This should not happen,” the current chancellor also warned.

What preceded: Germany is on its way to early parliamentary elections scheduled for February 23. The need for elections arose after the collapse of the coalition of Social Democrats, “Greens” and “Free Democrats”.

On December 16, the Bundestag voted no-confidence in Scholz’s government, which officially launched the preparations for the elections.
