The visit of Donald Trump’s future special envoy for the settlement of the war, Keith Kellogg, to Ukraine has been postponed for legal reasons. The trip will take place after the inauguration of the new US president.

This was announced by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhiy Tykhi, during a briefing.

Tychy was asked if the delay in Kellogg’s visit was a political story or purely inaugural. He emphasized that the visit continues to be prepared and it will take place.

“And I think it will be true to say that there are no political reasons why this visit will take place after the inauguration. Well, to be more precise, the only reasons why the visit will take place after the inauguration, after January 20, are purely legal reasons,” he said.

American law contains such an important piece of legislation called the Logan Act. According to it, all contacts should take place after the assumption of the office of the president. So this is the only reason.

“I repeat, we are preparing for this visit. We believe that it is very important. We really want to start a dialogue with General Kellogg as soon as possible after the inauguration on the most important issues of achieving a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace,” concluded Tykhi.

The day before, Trump’s chosen special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, said that he aims to try to find a solution to the current full-scale war within 100 days of the inauguration of the new president.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to the statement of the special representative of the US President-elect Donald Trump for Ukraine Keith Kellogg about the possibility of ending the war within 100 days after the inauguration on January 20.

We previously wrote that Donald Trump’s future special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, was supposed to visit Ukraine in early January, but postponed his familiarization trip to Kyiv and other European capitals.

Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, believes that the postponement of the visit is good news and shows that the Trump administration is studying the information provided by intelligence and “gets a deeper idea of what kind of war it is and what solutions can be implemented.”
