Novak Djokovic: “In a hotel in Melbourne, they gave me some food with poison”

24-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments Novak Djokovicwho won 11 times on the Melbourne courts, recalled the scandalous arrival at the Australian Open 2022:

“After returning home, I had health problems. And I realized that in the Melbourne hotel they gave me some food with poison. I’ve never talked about it publicly before, but the test results showed that I have very high levels of heavy metals: lead and mercury.

Before that, I thought I was just sick, but when it was clearly more days than the flu should last, I called an ambulance to my house. Then they did toxicological tests on me,” Novak told GQ.

At the press conference before the start of the 2025 Australian Open, Nole was asked:

“Do you have any evidence linking the high levels of heavy metals in your blood to the food you were fed in the detention facility?”

Djokovic did not provide evidence:

“Look, the GQ article came online yesterday. This is the February issue, so it will be a little later in the press. I gave this interview many months ago. I don’t want to go into details because right now I want to focus on tennis. If you want to know what I said and get more information, you can always go back to that article.”

In 2022, Djokovic flew to Melbourne unvaccinated during the coronavirus pandemic. He was deported from the country after several days of proceedings – the Serb’s visa was then revoked.
