The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced that he had a telephone conversation with the President of the United States, Joe Biden.

The White House also informed about these negotiations.

According to Zelenskyi, among other things, they discussed the details of the new package of sanctions against Russia.

“Discussed the details of the new US sanctions package on Russian energy, which helps Putin finance the war. It is very important that America has now struck at Russia’s shadow tanker fleet and at such companies as Gazpromneft and Surgutneftegaz, which accumulate money personally for Putin. He must feel the cost of his war, losing out of his purses. Grateful to America, to both parties, to both houses of Congress, who support completely fair pressure on Russia for unprovoked and criminal aggression. Discussed the details of the new US sanctions package on Russian energy, which helps Putin finance the war,” he wrote in a telegram.

Zelenskyi said that the situation at the front, the need to further strengthen air defense, was also discussed.

On January 10, the USA introduced sanctions against more than 30 Russian oil service companies. As reported by the US Treasury Department, radical measures were taken to fulfill the G7 obligations to reduce Russian revenues from energy sources, including the blocking of two large Russian oil producers – Gazpromneft and Surgutneftegaz.

The US State Department added that it is imposing sanctions against almost 80 legal entities and individuals, including those engaged in the active production and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia. Others include those who are trying to expand Russian oil production capacity, who support the sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project, who are involved in the Russian metallurgical and mining sector, as well as high-ranking officials of the Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom.
