“In Georgia, dozens of civil servants dismissed for political reasons are preparing a collective lawsuit in court. Dismissals took place without justification after changes to the Law “On Civil Service”.”, — write on: unn.ua
Layoffs in various state departments began at the end of 2024. Dozens of citizens who publicly condemned the decision of the Georgian government to refuse negotiations regarding the country’s accession to the European Union were left without work. Speaking with collective statements or privately, civil servants said that the actions of the authorities contradicted the Constitution. Relatives of opposition politicians were among those released.
“The release of these persons clearly contains signs of persecution and discrimination for political reasons,” the NGO notes.
Let’s add
ISFED notes that the dismissals took place “without any justification and transparent procedures.” The reasons were reorganization or the expiration of the contract. The process was greatly simplified thanks to the amendments to the Law “On Civil Service”, which “Georgian Dream” adopted in an accelerated manner on December 13, 2024.
ISFED together with the “Independent Trade Union of Civil Servants” provide free legal aid to the dismissed. Citizens who find themselves in a similar situation can also count on NGO lawyers.
