Stopping the transit of oil through the territory of Ukraine through the Druzhba oil pipeline will be a direct violation by Ukraine of the Energy Charter Treaty and the Association Agreement with the EU Ukraine.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this during the hour of questions to the government, reports UNN.

Details

As Shmyhal noted, the transit of oil through the territory of Ukraine is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Energy Charter Treaty and the Association Agreement with the EU on ensuring freedom of transit, and also complies with the conditions of the sixth package of EU sanctions, which provides for Hungary and Slovakia an exception to the ban on the purchase of oil of Russian origin and its supply to their own oil refineries by pipeline transport.

Accordingly, stopping the transit of oil through the Druzhba oil pipeline will be a direct violation by Ukraine of the Energy Charter Treaty and the EU Association Agreement with Ukraine. It is not about fines, but about violation of the Association Agreement with the EU. At the same time, Ukraine’s violation of its international obligations on transit security can be used as a sufficient basis for holding Ukraine responsible for the termination of reliable and uninterrupted oil transit, in particular, on the part of Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, and the probable imposition of corresponding financial demands. It will be an appropriate international arbitration and the amount will be… it is not available today. That is, it will be presented and calculated by the countries that will suffer the corresponding losses, but it will obviously be some kind of large sanctions, large funds

We will remind

Draft law No. 12380, which prohibits the transit of Russian oil and gas through the territory of Ukraine during martial law, has been registered in the Parliament.
