Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal shared their anguish at watching their homes burn to the ground and Adam Brody and Leighton Meester’s house is also now rubble, while Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have been evacuated to hotels.

At least five people have been killed in the fires, which are said to be the most destructive in LA’s history with over 150,000 people under evacuation orders.

Fears are also growing for some of Hollywood’s historic sites, as the flames – which have so far engulfed 16,000 acres – creep closer to the Walk of Fame and other tourist spots.

Key events in awards season have been postponed or abandoned, with some pressing for attention and money to be directed towards the first responders and firefighters’ efforts to contain the blaze.

How did the LA wildfires start?

California no longer has a fire season, said state governor Gavin Newsom said, adding ‘It’s year-round’.

It’s got to this point for a few reasons, including the climate with warmer temperatures and a lack of rainfall drying out the vegetation surrounding LA. In this climate, all it takes is a spark to ignite a wildfire.

This particular wildfire began after recent dry winds and warmer-than-average temperatures, with very little rain, meaning a lack of humidity across the region.

This comes just days after the biggest stars convened at the Golden Globes to kick-start the awards season.

Numerous premieres — including for Severance season two and Robbie Williams’ Better Man — have now been cancelled.

Actress Jean Smart, who won a Golden Globe just days ago for her role in Hacks, posted a message for TV networks planning to air Hollywood award shows amid the destruction.

‘Attention! With ALL due respect, during Hollywood’s season of celebration, I hope any of the networks televising the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT televising them and donating the revenue they would have garnered to victims of the fires and the firefighters,’ she said.

The nominations announcement, originally scheduled to be livestreamed on January 17, has been pushed back until January 19.

The academy detailed the changes to its members in a memo from chief executive Bill Kramer, seen by PA.

‘We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been impacted by the devastating fires across Southern California,” it read.

‘So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you.’

Critics Choice Awards The 30th annual ceremony of the Critics Choice Awards has been postponed from January 12 to January 26 ‘due to the catastrophic fires ravaging Southern California’, a statement said.

The rescheduled event will remain at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, and will broadcast live on E! and around the world.

Joey Berlin, chief executive of the Critics Choice Association, said: ‘This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community.

‘All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected.’
