Within the framework of the meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the “Ramstein” format, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America, Lloyd Austin.
The head of state thanked the US for the $500 million security aid package announced during Ramstein, which was provided within the framework of the presidential program of powers.
Ukraine is grateful to the United States, to the entire American people, to the bipartisan and bicameral support that helps preserve independence and protect people’s lives in the fight against unprovoked and criminal Russian aggression. Thanks to the support of the USA and all partners, our state was able to save hundreds of cities and villages from destruction by the Russian army.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Lloyd Austin discussed in detail the situation on the battlefield, in particular in the Pokrovsky direction, and the course of the Kursk operation.
The parties noted the decisive role of drones at this stage of the war, the President also spoke about Ukraine’s defense needs regarding UAVs of various types. Ukraine’s strong positions on the battlefield are important for bringing about a just and lasting peace.
One of the main topics of the meeting is the implementation of the decisions of the Washington NATO Summit, in particular the strengthening of Ukrainian air defense. The President and the Minister of Defense discussed the prospects of providing additional air defense systems, in particular in cooperation with other partners.
Among the issues discussed are the further activities of the Coalition in the Rammstein format and the launch of the NATO initiative “Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine” (NSATU).
