“Did you get pressured from above?” Kabaev – about the conversation with Yarmolenko

Dynamo Kyiv football player Vladyslav Kabaev remembered how he played in the capital club under number seven and told why he gave it to Andrey Yarmolenko:

“When I came to Dynamo, number 7 became vacant because Verbych left. The first person I met was our administrator Maksymich. He advised me to take this number, especially since I also wanted to play with seven. I did not feel any pressure, although they told me: “Do you know that Shevchenko played under this number?”.

And then Yarmolenko came and he started playing under number 21. And I looked at him and understood that he was not for him. I approached him and offered to give the 7th number. He refused, and then he came to me on the second day and asked: “Maybe you were pressured from above?”.

And I just wanted to get back my 22nd number, under which I played in “Zara” and scored a few goals. He asked me again a couple of times, but this was my final decision,” Kabaev recalled.
