Blinken and Macron discussed support for Ukraine at a meeting in France – US State Department

United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held talks with President Emmanuel Macron on January 8 during his visit to France. At the meeting, in particular, they talked about support for Ukraine, the press service of the US State Department reported.

“The Secretary of State and President Macron discussed our unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s brutal aggression and concerns about China’s support for the Russian defense and industrial base that powers the Kremlin’s military machine,” the report said.

Earlier, Anthony Blinken met in Paris with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Jean-Noel Barro. At the press conference after the meeting, the US Secretary of State emphasized that in the coming months, France’s leadership will be important for the protection of Ukraine’s independence.

Blinken recalled that in the nearly three years since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, France has trained more than 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers, and French companies have increased production “to strengthen our transatlantic defense and industrial base.”

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who will resign in less than two weeks, is not the first time this week to raise the topic of Ukraine. On January 6, in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, he stated that Ukraine’s position in Russia’s Kursk region is important for any future negotiations. Blinken reminded that the administration of President Joe Biden seeks to ensure that “Ukraine has as strong a hand as possible to play.”
