The legendary ex-player of Kyiv “Dynamo” Serhiy Baltacha recalls how Kharkiv “Metalist” did not let him go to Kyiv “Dynamo”.

“It was the end of 1976. I am invited by the team that won the European Cup just a year ago. It was the dream of every football player to join Dynamo. I remember how I was locked up in a hotel room in Kharkiv and was not allowed to go anywhere.

I really wanted to play for Dynamo. I spent a lot of energy on individual training. I worked overtime.

Especially then, to get into the golden team was something with something.

Coaches came to Metalist and refused. They said that they wouldn’t take me back, they didn’t even pay me premiums. Until today, they owe me 5,000 rubles,” Baltacha said.

The defender spent 11 seasons for the Kyiv club, during which he played 245 matches and scored 6 goals.
