The first title fight in 2025 took place in Brobdych (Australia) on January 8 – the IBF cruiserweight world champion Jay Opetaya (27–0, 21 KOs, Australia) met with contender David Nyika (10–1, 9 KOs, New Zealand).

The New Zealand boxer tried to force a fight at close range, moved well on his feet and constantly changed stances. Opetaia threw a lot of punches, worked in series and perfectly controlled the situation in the ring.

With each round, the champion’s advantage continued to increase, and Nyika became more and more tired and slowed down in speed. In one of the episodes, Opetaya sent the opponent to a knockdown, but he managed to continue the fight.

Literally in the next attack, the Australian caught the opponent dangerously with a right side, after which he continued to smash Nyika and knocked him out. The applicant lost consciousness and could not regain consciousness for a long time. Perhaps the referee should have stopped the fight a little earlier. KO 4.

Jay continues to confidently defeat his opponents and collect spectacular knockouts. We will remind, Opetaya is considered one of the possible rivals for the Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk.
