Referring to the Macroeconomic and Monetary Review of the National Bank of Ukraine, she said that in 2024 wages increased in real terms. In particular, in the third quarter, nominal wages increased by 22.3%, and real wages – by 14.2%. In most economic activities, real wages are higher than they were in the third quarter of 2021, that is, before the full-scale invasion.

In addition, the economist noted, on April 1, 2024, the minimum wage in Ukraine increased from 7,100 hryvnias to 8,000 hryvnias.

At the same time, Cherenko emphasized, it became difficult for people living on the minimum pension, which is 2,361 hryvnias, to survive, especially in older age groups, if they do not have support from relatives or additional work.

“During the two years of the war, 2022-2023, the poverty level increased by 1.7 times. This is, of course, a large increase, but not as critical as it could be. But the level of deep poverty, that is, the share of people who limits of physiological survival, increased from 1.3% in 2021 to 8.8% in 2023, i.e. seven times,” she said economist

She explained that “the situation today is critical not even for those who work, but for those who do not have help from relatives and live on less than minimal social transfers.”

Salaries of Ukrainians: the latest newsAs UNIAN previously reported, wages in Ukraine are “rising rapidly”, and the main reason is the shortage of workers. Experts add that in most types of economic activity, wages are higher than they were in the third quarter of 2021, that is, before a full-scale war. The exception is the spheres of education and art.

Salaries of officials in Ukraine increased by 61% in the period from January to November 2024 inclusive. In the last month of autumn, the average salary in central state bodies amounted to 62 thousand hryvnias.

Ukrainians in Poland no longer want to work for low wages, and only 5% are ready to receive less than €900. Studies show that their demands exceed other groups of economic migrants.
