“This happens in every army” – the representative of the Ministry of Defense of Poland about the escape of Ukrainian soldiers from exercises

“In a group of 26,000 people, are there people who have other plans? Probably, such things happen. It’s a pretty big group of people.””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

Desertion and lack of subordination happens in any army in the world – Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland Cezary Tomczyk said this in a commentary to Radio Liberty, commenting on information about the escape of Ukrainian military personnel from training in Europe.

“We are the country that has trained the largest number of Ukrainian military personnel. Today it is more than 26 thousand. Are there people in the group of 26,000 people who have other plans or believe that their future is not in the Ukrainian army? Probably, such things happen. This is quite a large group of people. Instead, I believe that the details should remain between us,” said Tomchyk.

According to him, the facts of the escape will in no way affect the cooperation between Ukraine and Poland in matters of military exercises.

“We are doing everything to help the Ukrainian side, so that Ukraine knows that they can count on us and that we want to continue training Ukrainian soldiers in Poland so that they can defend their country. I think it is obvious that there are cases of desertion and this happens in every army in the world. Instead, if (such cases – ed.) occur in the case of Ukraine, it is a marginal matter that has no influence on the training of the Ukrainian military in Poland,” added the Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland.

When Radio Svoboda asked if there were requests from the Ukrainian side regarding the escape of Ukrainian military personnel during transit to France or in the opposite direction, Cezaryy Tomchyk replied: “I don’t remember such a thing.”

On January 6, the France-Presse agency, citing an official representative of the French army, reported that several dozen of more than two thousand Ukrainian soldiers from the 155th “Anna of Kyiv” brigade deserted during training.
