American lawmakers believe that the newly elected US President Donald Trump will bring a number of changes to the country’s foreign policy. They told Voice of America about it.

Republican Congressman Daniel Muser is convinced that Trump will continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

Republican Mike Lawler shares the same opinion. According to him, the future head of the White House understands the importance of supporting Ukraine for the national security of the United States and the security of Europe.

“Obviously, this is a conflict that we would like to resolve. As the future president himself stated, there has already been so much bloodshed, so many victims, especially among the Ukrainian people, that we want this conflict to end,” Lawler emphasized.

At the same time, Democratic congressman John Larson believes that Trump was very vague and unclear” in his statements regarding foreign policy, support for Ukraine and other issues.

Republican lawmakers Ralph Norman and Carlos Gimenez emphasized the tactics of the future US president to negotiate from a position of strength.

Norman says that the cause of the problems with Israel, Ukraine, Russia, China” is the weakness of the USA. At the same time, Gimenez said that during Trump’s term, the States will be tougher on enemies and friendlier to US friends.”

Democratic Congresswoman Norma Torres is also confident that foreign policy will change under Trump’s presidency. However, she did not specify what exactly the changes are.

“I am a member of the Appropriations Committee of the US House of Representatives, which oversees the funding of all our international affairs. Ukraine is very important to me, as is Israel — it’s important to us to make sure we continue to provide the assistance they need to protect their democracy. Therefore, I think there will be some changes,” Torres emphasized.

On January 7, Trump said at a press conference that he hopes to end Russia’s war against Ukraine in six months. The former ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Valery Chaly, said that the journalist’s question was not about the end of the war, but about a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and it was about this possible meeting that Trump’s answer was about six months.
