19-year-old American tennis player Nishesh Basavareddy (ATP 133) reached the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 hard tournament in Auckland, New Zealand.

Nishesh lost in the 1/8 finals Alejandro Tabilo (Chile, ATP 23) in three sets in 2 hours and 26 minutes.

This was the first meeting of the rivals. Last year, Tabilo won the trophy on the Auckland courts.

Basavareddy achieved the highest ranking victory of his career and advanced to the quarterfinals at the ATP level for the first time. Nišesh will play against Alex Mickelsen (USA, ATP 41), who was defeated by Lorenzo Sonego (Italy, ATP 54) in the 2nd round, to reach the semifinals of the New Zealand competition.

In Auckland, Basavareddy started from qualifying and on his way, in addition to Tabilo, he beat Botik van de Zandsgulp, Daniel Altmeier and Francisco Komesana.
