Iran offers India to resume imports of Iranian crude oil through Chabahar port.

This proposal was voiced during the 19th Indian-Iranian political dialogue at the level of the foreign ministries of these countries, which took place on January 2-3 of the new year.

Trade between India and Iran declined in mid-2019 when New Delhi halted purchases of Iranian oil due to the threat of secondary sanctions from the US.

In 2018, India took over the management of the Chabahar terminal, and in 2024 it signed a 10-year agreement worth $370 million. USA regarding its development. It is a competitor to the Chinese-funded Gwadar Port in Pakistan.

The resumption of oil trade and the development of the Chabahar port is strategically important for Iran, as it allows bypassing US sanctions and increasing trade with Central Asia, India and other regions. In addition, it opens up the possibility of bypassing international sanctions for Russia, giving it access to the Indian Ocean.
