US President-elect Donald Trump expressed confidence that he will be able to come to an understanding with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. This is reported by Reuters.
Trump said that he already had contacts with the Chinese leader.
“We have already spoken. We spoke through their representatives,” said the future leader of the White House.
He described Xi as a strong and powerful man who he said is respected in China.
“I think we’re probably going to do really well. But you know it has to be a two-way street,” Trump emphasized.
At the same time, the president-elect said, China “is robbing” the US economically.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China reported that they are providing “of great importance” by Trump’s statement. They emphasized that China is ready to contribute “stable, healthy and stable” development of economic and trade relations.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun would not confirm whether Trump and Xi Jinping had been in contact, but noted that Washington and Beijing are communicating through various means.
On December 12, CBS News wrote that Trump invited Xi Jinping to his inauguration, which will take place on January 20, 2025.
CNN later reported that a delegation of high-ranking Chinese officials would attend the inauguration of the US president-elect instead of Xi Jinping.
A trade war between China and the USA is possible – what is known
On November 15, the Financial Times, citing advisers from the People’s Republic of China and international risk analysts, reported that China has prepared appropriate measures against American companies if US President-elect Donald Trump unleashes a trade war.
Moreover, according to journalists, the measures were prepared even though China’s economic prospects have since made it more vulnerable to US pressure.
The newspaper Bild reported that the European Union is going to support the newly elected US President Donald Trump in his intention to increase trade pressure on China.
On November 30, Trump threatened the BRICS countries, which include China, with the introduction of 100% tariffs on goods if they refuse to use the dollar.
