Minister of Justice of Montenegro Boyan Božović approved the extradition of Terra founder Do Kwon to the USA. This was reported by the local publication Vijesti.
According to the statement, the authorities analyzed the extradition requests from the United States and South Korea according to a number of criteria, including the severity and place of the crime, the procedure for submitting official documents and the possibility of Kwon’s subsequent transfer to another country.
“The Minister of Justice has made a decision allowing Do Kwon’s extradition to the United States while refusing to extradite him to the Republic of Korea,” the agency said.
On December 25, the court rejected another appeal by Kwon, requesting to cancel the extradition. The decision was delegated to Bozhovych.
Previously, the businessman had repeatedly succeeded in appealing against the decision of the Montenegrin authorities, who had already tried to send him both to the United States and to South Korea.
Kwon spent four months in a local jail on charges of using forged documents. In March 2024, he was released and transferred to an immigration center, where they intend to hold him pending extradition or other developments.
It will be recalled that in September, the co-founder of the cryptocurrency pyramid FutureNet was arrested in Montenegro.
