Scandal: Carlsen sent FIDE. He was removed from the World Championship for coming in jeans

Norwegian chess player Magnus Carlsen disqualified from the World Rapid Championship in New York for a dress code violation.

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) decided to suspend the 34-year-old Norwegian from the tournament when Carlsen arrived at the match wearing jeans.

After that, Carlsen said that he was tired of this attitude and sent FIDE away in a direct text.

Magnus Carlsen: “FIDE actually harassed the players to get them not to sign a contract with Freestyle Chess. The players were threatened with the fact that they would not be able to perform in the cycle of the World Cup. Therefore, to be honest, my patience for them was not great at first. And that’s normal, they can impose their own rules.

I am very tired of FIDE. Enough! I don’t want to have anything to do with them anymore. I apologize to the audience. But you left, FIDE.” [Було сказано: F*ck you – в оригиналі].

Also, Carlsen said that he will not participate in the World Championship in the blitz game and wants to spend time in warmer weather conditions.

The 2024 World Chess Championship in rapid (rapid, 26-28.12) and blitz (30-31.12) program takes place in New York from December 26 to 31.
