The Russian military tried to land on Kozatskyi Island near Kherson, the spokesman of the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, Vladyslav Voloshyn, said in a telethon broadcast.

He noted that “in the Dnieper direction, the enemy continues both assaults and shelling.”

“Over the past day (December 26 – ed.) he continued his efforts to land on Cossack Island. However, he was not successful, he could not land, he suffered losses in the equipment,” said the spokesman.

According to Voloshin, “among the losses of the enemy, in particular, boats, watercraft and personnel.”

The islands at the mouth of the Dnieper, along which the dividing zone of the Kherson region and the right and left banks actually pass, are in the so-called “gray zone” of hostilities. The forces of the Russian Federation are trying to take control over them, as this will help to gain a foothold on the right bank.

The Russian military regularly attacks Ukrainian regions with various types of weapons – attack UAVs, rockets, anti-aircraft missiles, and anti-aircraft missiles.

The leadership of Russia denies that the Russian army during a full-scale war inflicts targeted strikes on the civilian infrastructure of the cities and villages of Ukraine, killing the civilian population and destroying hospitals, schools, kindergartens, energy and water supply facilities.

Ukrainian authorities and international organizations qualify these strikes as war crimes committed by the Russian Federation and emphasize that they are targeted.
