The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba.

The head of state congratulated Shigeru Ishiba on his election as the head of the government and thanked Japan for all the humanitarian and financial aid provided to Ukraine in the total amount of 12 billion dollars. Separately, the President noted the decision of the Japanese government to transfer to Ukraine another 3 billion dollars secured by frozen Russian assets.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi also welcomed the additional aid approved by the Japanese parliament for energy equipment and construction of shelters.

The head of state said that this Christmas night, Russia carried out a massive attack on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. That is why the protection and restoration of the energy sector are a priority in the conditions of the aggressor state’s attempts to leave Ukrainians without heat and light in winter.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Shigeru Ishiba condemned the participation of the DPRK in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Prime Minister stated that Japan takes this escalation extremely seriously, considers it a great risk for security in the Indo-Pacific region, and is ready to increase sanctions pressure on the aggressor.

The President also thanked Japan for its readiness to work with the democratic world, in particular with the new US administration, to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine as soon as possible.
In addition, the parties agreed to meet to continue the dialogue.
