The expert told how Ukraine can overcome the demographic crisis

Ella Libanova noted that there is a demographic crisis in Ukraine and this is normal for a warring country. The only question is how the country will deal with it.

Depopulation was characteristic of Ukraine even before the war. But it did not have the same scale and pace as today. And now it has been repeatedly strengthened by external migration and occupation of the territory. If you look at the graph, there are two strong ledges. The first ledge is 2014, of course, and the second ledge is 2022

The sociologist also refuted forecasts of an increase in the population to 25 million by 2025.

There is no need to read the forecasts now, because they are all completely uncertain. The demographic forecast, as well as the economic forecast in this situation, is based on the military forecast. If we knew for sure that the war, at least the hot phase, would end then and there on such and such conditions, here a compromise would be reached, here it would not be reached… Whether the danger of further aggressive actions by the neighbors remains or not – everything depends on this. Therefore, when they say 25 – and maybe 40 – who knows how many there will be.

Ella Libanova added that it is impossible to overcome the demographic crisis naturally. The increase can be achieved solely at the expense of large-scale immigration to Ukraine.
