Deputy General Director of UDP Vladyslav Belakh said that today UDP transports Ukrainian agricultural products to the seaport of Constanta and is working on increasing the volume of transportation.

“We have repeatedly appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers with proposals to introduce a discount on the Ukrzaliznytsia tariff to Izmail, in order to at least partially compensate for the difference with the cost of delivery to Odesa. The planned increase in the Ukrzaliznytsia tariff will increase the logistics cost of a ton of grain through the Danube ports by approximately five dollars. and will put the Danube in an even more disadvantageous position compared to Odesa.The work of the fleet in the direction of Constanta is simple will stop,” he says.

In order to guarantee Ukraine’s preservation of Danube logistics as an alternative export channel, it is necessary to leave Ukrzaliznytsia freight rates unchanged, the UDP says. And they call on the relevant minister, Oleksiy Kuleba, to take measures to curb tariffs.

“We appeal to the leadership of the Ministry and the Cabinet of Ministers. Keep the tariff for railway transportation to Izmail unchanged. The war continues, military risks are relevant. If exports from Odesa, as in 2022-2023, are in danger, we will have to spend time on reanimation of Danube logistics. Business will again face sky-high rates and fleet shortages. If we are heard and supported, UDP will receive a guaranteed monthly cargo flow of 150,000-200,000 tons (1.2-1.5 million tons per year) and we will be able to ensure exports, both in the case of blockade of sea ports and the western border,” noted Vladyslav Belakh.

Earlier, OP Ukrmetallurgprom (UMP) also urged Prime Minister Denys Shmygal and Minister of Reconstruction Oleksiy Kuleba not to raise the tariff for freight transportation of Ukrzaliznytsia: they noted that the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine conducts behind-the-scenes discussions with UZ without the participation of the business community, sometimes the consequences for Ukraine’s economy will be catastrophic and threaten Ukraine with the shutdown of strategic enterprises and a significant reduction in foreign exchange earnings.
