Prosecutors in the case of Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin have decided not to appeal the decision to drop the charge of involuntary manslaughter of Ukrainian operative Galina Hutchins on the set, the Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office announced on December 23.

This means the official end of a long criminal case.

However, it is indicated that the prosecutor’s office “categorically disagrees” with the court’s dismissal of charges against Baldwin and denies concealing evidence.

Charges against the actor were dropped last July after Baldwin’s lawyers said prosecutors withheld evidence.

The tragedy happened on the set of the Hollywood western “Rust” on October 21, 2021. According to the plot, the performer of the main role, Alec Baldwin, was supposed to shoot a gun. He got a gun from the film gunsmith, pointed it at the camera and fired. It turned out that the cartridges in the barrel were live ammunition. The bullet hit camera operator Halyna Hutchins, the wound turned out to be fatal. Director Joel Souz was also injured and was hospitalized.

Galina Hutchins was born in Ukraine and grew up “on a Soviet military base beyond the Arctic Circle.” She graduated from the Faculty of Journalism in Kyiv, after which she worked as an investigative journalist filming documentaries in Europe. In 2015, she received her cinematographic education in the USA and started her career in Hollywood. In 2019, the magazine of the Society of Cinematographers of America included Hutchins among the stars of the movie.
