“The unethical behavior of the professor crossed the line, so it should be checked and properly reacted by the competent authorities””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, has prepared an appeal to the Ministry of Education, and also intends to appeal to the Security Service of Ukraine regarding the statements of the KNU professor named after Shevchenko Nikita Vasylenko.

In his telegram message, Lubinets noted that on December 22, a video circulated on social networks where “the odious KNU professor named after Taras Shevchenko voiced his opinion about Ukrainian women, which outraged society.”

“Maybe someone didn’t know, but about a year ago, the professor already got into a scandal, and our institution received a collective appeal from students about him. After my response, the university brought him to disciplinary action and the professor was reprimanded. I am reacting to his statements for the second time – I wrote letters to the Ministry of Education and Culture for the purpose of state supervision (control) of the activities of the educational institution and to the university with the demand to conduct an official investigation. I also see the need to contact the Security Service of Ukraine,” the message reads.

It is emphasized that “the unethical behavior of the professor has crossed the line, so it should be checked and properly reacted by the competent authorities.”

So far, Vasylenko himself has not commented on these statements.

On December 23, the Institute of Mass Information informed that the teacher of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Mykyta Vasylenko, stated on the air for the Russian media politnavigator.net, access to which is blocked in Ukraine, that “the appearance of foreign troops in Ukraine will improve the demographic situation.”

Vasylenko also cited the example of the Second World War, when Ukrainian territories were occupied by the Germans.

In February 2024, the permanent commission of the Academic Council of KNU named after Shevchenko created a working group on ethics issues to work out issues related to Vasylenko’s violation of pedagogical ethics and discriminatory statements.

Mykyta Vasylenko is a Ukrainian journalist, teacher and writer. He is also a professor, doctor of philology, candidate of philosophical sciences. Specialist in informational genres. He has been teaching for 40 years at the KNU Institute of Journalism, where he teaches investigative writing and reporting. He was a member of the Union of Left Forces party, which was banned as pro-Russian.
