It is noted that Europe is abandoning Russian energy carriers and is working on increasing energy independence, diversifying sources of supply and increasing the level of energy security for every European family and household. One such example was the rejection of Russian gas by Austria, which for many years had no alternative to supplies from the territory of the Russian Federation.
Therefore, the persistent actions of the Slovak government regarding the preservation of supplies of energy resources from Moscow contrary to EU policy and the joint work of European countries on the diversification of energy supply are surprising, the embassy says.
“During the year, his actions were actually aimed at helping Russia continue to squeeze American and other gas out of the European market, keeping Europe dependent and weakening our continent. This time could have been used to coordinate with European partners and neighbors in particular resolve all existing problems and find mutually acceptable solutions,” the MFA emphasized.
It is noted that Ukraine has repeatedly emphasized its readiness to consider relevant requests from the European Commission. However, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico “chose a different course”.
“Ukraine is paying the highest price – the price of human lives – for restraining Russian aggression and protecting European homes, including Slovak ones, from Russian murderers. We will not accept the shameful policy of appeasement, which has already proven its fallacy in the last century. The Slovak side should remember this better than others. We call on all European partners to work together to reduce dependence on Russian energy sources and strengthen energy security. of Europe,” the ministry summarized.
Fico’s visit to Putin: the world’s reactionSlovak politicians called the visit of Prime Minister Robert Fico to the Kremlin a shame for the country and a betrayal of national interests. The Czech diplomat noted that against this background, his country’s decision to indefinitely postpone intergovernmental consultations with the Slovak government looks like an even more prudent step.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi also reacted to Fico’s trip to bow to Putin. He emphasized that the Slovak prime minister wants to help the Russian dictator earn money to finance the war against Ukraine.
“Moscow provides significant discounts for Fico, but Slovakia pays for them. Such discounts are not free – Russia is paid for them with sovereignty or shadow schemes. This should interest Slovak law enforcement agencies and special services,” Zelenskyy added.
