Only Christmas will be celebrated by 11% of respondents, and only New Year by 4%, the majority of respondents (56%) will celebrate both Christmas and New Year.
11% of respondents will not celebrate any of the specified holidays, and another 18% are undecided.
“Despite the narratives that celebrations during the war can be afforded only by people who are far from its realities and have forgotten about it, respondents who have close people who participated/participated in military operations during the Russian-Ukrainian war, as well as those , whose relatives are in the temporarily occupied territories, will celebrate the New Year and Christmas this year as often as respondents who do not have such relatives,” sociologists noted.
The survey was conducted by the “Democratic Initiatives” foundation together with the Razumkov Center from November 29 to December 14, 2024, in the territories controlled by the government of Ukraine and where hostilities are not taking place. 1518 respondents were interviewed by the face-to-face method. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.6%.
Most Ukrainians will not rent a separate apartment for the New Year holidays and do not plan winter trips. And 44% of respondents will spend no more than 5,000 hryvnias on the New Year.
