The CEC of Belarus has registered the current head of state Alexander Lukashenko as a presidential candidate. It is also about 4 more candidates for the elections scheduled for January 26, 2025. The governments of several Western countries have already declared that they do not recognize the results of these elections.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has registered five candidates who will participate in the presidential elections of the country, which are to be held on January 26, 2025. These are Oleksandr Lukashenko, Oleg Haydukevych, Serhii Syrankov, Anna Kanapatska and Oleksandr Khizhnyak.

The last presidential election was held on August 9, 2020: then Lukashenko almost won with 80.1% of the vote, but protests began immediately after the election. In November 2020 Lukashenko announced that he will not run for president after the adoption of the new Constitution.

According to the CEC, 2,518,145 citizens supported Llyukashenko’s candidacy, 134,472 were supported by the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Oleh Haydukevich, 125,577 by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party Serhii Syrankov, 121,077 by the natural person-entrepreneur Anna Kanapatska, the chairman of the Republican Labor Party and justice of Alexander Khyzhnyak — 112,779.

At the same time, the governments of several Western countries have already declared that they do not recognize the results of these elections.

Elections in Belarus are taking place in conditions of political crisis, large-scale repression and, according to international organizations, are unfree and undemocratic. There are no officially registered opposition parties and independent public organizations left in Belarus.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to the statement of a Belarusian official about claims to participate in peace talks regarding Ukraine. The Ministry reminded about the complicity of Belarus in the aggression and indicated the possibility of prosecution.
