Burnett’s position will be distinct from that of an ambassador and does not require confirmation by the US Senate.
“Mark will work to strengthen diplomatic relations, focusing on areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment opportunities and cultural exchanges,” the post said.
Born in London, Emmy Award-winner Burnett is the creator of the reality show Survivor, which became a hit on American television after it premiered in 2000. He has also produced other popular shows, including Trump’s reality show The Apprentice, which aired on NBC in various formats for 15 seasons since 2004.
In early December, Trump appointed Republican Party donor and billionaire investment banker Warren Stevens as US ambassador to Great Britain.
Earlier, Donald Trump said that he wants Charles Kushner to become the ambassador to France. Charles Kushner is the father of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. He founded the Kushner Companies, a real estate company.
