The bill will now go to the White House, where President Joe Biden is expected to sign it.
Before that – a few hours before midnight, when current government funding officially expires – the US House of Representatives passed a resolution to prevent a shutdown. 366 legislators supported the document, 34 spoke against it, and one abstained.
This happened after an unsuccessful attempt to promote a bipartisan bill that provided temporary budget funding for three months. Although Democrats and Republicans in Congress reached an agreement on it, the document was opposed by Elon Musk, as well as President-elect Donald Trump, effectively blocking its passage.
Passing a budget by the US Congress is always a difficult task, as both chambers are divided between Republicans and Democrats.
