Since the beginning of the full-scale war launched by Russia against Ukraine, the UN has recorded more than 12,300 civilian deaths. In addition, more than 27,800 were injured.

This was stated by Izumi Nakamitsu, UN Deputy Secretary General for Disarmament Affairs, Ukrinform reports.

“For the period from February 24, 2022 to November 30, 2024, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights recorded more than 12,340 dead and 27,836 wounded civilians in Ukraine,” she said at a meeting of the Security Council.

Nakamitsu also emphasized that the reason for the death of about 42% of civilians in Ukraine during November is precisely the result of the use of long-range weapons by the Russians. And this indicator is significantly higher than in previous months.

Moreover, the Deputy Secretary General cited this year’s statistics, published by the UN Monitoring Mission on Human Rights in Ukraine. According to these data, in the period from January 1 to November 30, 341 civilians were killed and 1,803 people were injured as a result of aerial bombings. This is three and six times higher than the corresponding indicators of the previous year.

On December 17, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on human rights violations in the occupied territories of Ukraine. The document called Russia’s aggression a “war of aggression” for the first time.

The Security Council of the United Nations (UN) will hold an emergency meeting. The reason was the latest Russian attacks on the critical infrastructure of Ukraine.

During 2024, Russia carried out 12 large-scale attacks directly on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, firing about 1,100 cruise and ballistic missiles at its facilities.
