The Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration – the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olha Stefanyshyn avoided answering questions about the alleged cyber attacks on Ukraine’s backup server located in Poland.

“Our servers are not located in the same location. It was a massive attack on absolutely the entire infrastructure. I would not like to comment on the details now,” Stefanyshyn said, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

At the same time, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) opened criminal proceedings on the fact of a cyberattack on the state registers of the Ministry of Justice and established that a hacker group connected to the main intelligence agency was involved in it (GRU) of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

“The main version considered by the SBU is that the Russian special services are behind this cyberattack, in particular the hacker group GRU of the General Directorate of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,” said V. at. Volodymyr Karastelov, head of the Cyber ​​Security Department of the SBU.

“In general, we are working in three directions: repelling the attack, restoring the operational efficiency of the infrastructure, as well as documenting this war crime,” Karastelov noted.

He clarified that the criminal proceedings are being investigated, in particular, under Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war).

It was previously reported that on December 19, 2024, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine announced a large-scale failure at the level of the network infrastructure serving state registries.

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna announced the biggest cyberattack on Ukrainian state registers by the Russian Federation in recent times.

Stefanyshina reported that the Russian Federation carried out a cyber attack on state registers under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice, with the aim of disrupting the work of critical infrastructure, their work was temporarily suspended. She noted that the priority recovery time will be approximately two weeks. According to her, the State Register of Civil Status Acts of Citizens, the Unified State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs, and the State Register of Real Property Rights and Encumbrances will be restored as a priority. Stefanyshyn soon announced that there was no data leak.
