On December 19, on the second attempt, the Verkhovna Rada expelled People’s Deputy, head of the “Platform for Life and Peace” parliamentary group Yury Boyko from the parliamentary committee on human rights, deoccupation and reintegration of occupied territories, people’s deputies Yaroslav Zheleznyak (“Voice”) and Oleksiy Honcharenko ( “European solidarity”).

According to reports, this decision was supported by 258 people’s deputies at the meeting on December 19.

The day before, the Verkhovna Rada could not exclude Boyko from the committee, 217 deputies voted “for” instead of the required 226.

The other day, People’s Deputy Yuriy Boyko, the former co-chairman of the “Opposition Platform – For Life” party, which was banned in 2022, posted a video on TikTok in which he accused unnamed “radicals” of forbidding people in Ukraine to speak their native language, go to church, which they want, demolish monuments and rename cities.

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, responding to the statement of the chairman of the Platform for Life and Peace parliamentary group, said that it is impossible to talk about violence and not mention Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Boyko, in a comment to Radio Svoboda, answering a question about whether his activity on TikTok is “preparation for the elections”, said that posting videos on the platform “has become no more than one of the directions of the communication strategy.” He also stated in a written response received on December 17 that “this has nothing to do with Russia and its narratives.”

Also, on December 17, Boyko recorded a new address in which he asked for forgiveness from those “Ukrainians who are fighting at the front or working in the rear for victory” who were offended by his words.

This video appeared after a RFE/RL source in the Security Service of Ukraine reported on December 17 that Yuriy Boyko had come to the SBU for questioning. According to the interlocutor, “the Security Service summoned the politician for questioning, where he must explain his latest statements in detail.”
