On the night of Thursday, December 19, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the infrastructure and production facilities of the JSC Novoshakhty Oil Products Plant in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, which supplies the Russian occupiers with fuel.
This is stated in the statement of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The attack on the refinery was carried out by the forces and means of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Security Service in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces.
According to the General Staff, as a result of the attack, a fire broke out at the ЕЛОУ-АВТ-2.5 catalytic cracking unit. More detailed information about the consequences is being clarified.
NV sources in the Defense Forces clarified that the combined strike was carried out using Ukrainian-made drones and missiles.
According to sources, SBU drones initially overwhelmed the Russian anti-aircraft defense that was protecting the plant. With this they created “window of opportunity” for the operation of Ukrainian rockets, with which the SBU and the Navy jointly worked out the next stage.
The Novoshakhty Refinery is the only active oil refinery in the Rostov Region. It specializes in the production of fuel oil, furnace, marine and diesel fuel, straight-run gasoline and is used to meet the needs of the occupying army. The capacity of the enterprise reaches 7.5 million tons of oil per year.
On the night of December 19, the Internet reported large-scale explosions in Novoshakhtinsk, a fire started at the oil refinery. Local authorities claim that the fire has already been extinguished.
The Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country announced a massive UAV attack on the Rostov region and the “interception” of 36 drones. The governor of the region wrote about the strike with three more missiles.
