According to Rutte, the purpose of today’s meeting with Zelenskyi is to “discuss everything related to Ukraine at the moment, and how to make it so that we can do our best so that one day, when he decides, we can start negotiations with the Russians about how to put an end to all this.”
Rutte said that support for the Ukrainian economy will also be discussed – that is why the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council.

Regarding what the future peace agreement might be, what the security guarantees might be, the NATO Secretary General reiterated his position that public discussion of this should be avoided now.
“I think it would be very wise of us to cover it up and focus on current affairs. And the point is to make sure that Ukraine has everything necessary to prevent Putin from winning and for Ukraine to win. This is our ambition,” Rutte said, adding that Europe’s security and future security depend on it.
