In the village of Smolyari in Volyn, the fallen hero Vasyl Solodukha was mourned under the gates of the UOC MP church, because the local bishop, with the support of the village head, did not let people into the church.

“The greatest sorrow for parents is to bury their child. The parents of the deceased Hero Vasyl Solodukha, a resident of the village of Smolyari, are currently going through such a difficult time of mourning. In the hour of mourning, they need sympathy, support, help and attention more than ever. But quite by chance I learned from the residents of this village that the head of the Starovyzhiv settlement, Vasyl Kaminsky, and the priest of the local village church, which supposedly does not belong to the Moscow Patriarchate, did not come to them with such intentions,” the post reads.
According to Blinova, the head of the village and the priest persuaded the parents to refuse to have the dead Hero buried by priests and chaplains of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, saying, “then the parents will not be able to enter the church and light a candle for their son’s repose.”
As the information agency “Konkurent” writes, father Ivan Zelenko from OCU came to mourn the hero.
“We agreed that the church would be open, they (representatives of the UOC MP – ed.) knew that we would be there. When the rite of burial was already taking place, we came to the temple, and there was a castle. It can be seen that he is brand new, and he was hanged only in the morning. We put two benches, a loaf of bread, a cross and a coffin, sang a song and went to the cemetery to bury,” Father Zelenko said.
It is noted that the head of the village, Vasyl Kaminsky, rejects all the accusations.
“Since there was no OCU church on the territory of the village, the parents first decided to mourn their son in the yard near the house. Father Ivan of the OCU was invited. Then there were various negotiations… I instructed to inform the father that Father Ivan would conduct the ceremony. We brought the deceased, carried him to the house, said goodbye, because these are my close friends. Next, I handed over the authority to Father Ivan to conduct the spiritual part. They started moving to the cemetery, they stopped near the church. Since this issue was not agreed with the priest, the church was closed,” said the head of the community.
Father Ivan Zelenko posted a photo on Facebook where he sings Vasyl Solodukha in front of the closed gates of the church.
“Today, Vasyl Solodukha, a resident of the village of Smolyari, was carried out on his last journey. Eternal glory to the Hero and the Kingdom of Heaven!” Zelenko captioned the photo.
And the Starovyzhiv village council published a photo report on the farewell to the Hero on Facebook, where there is no photo of the coffin with the body of the deceased standing at the church gate.
Earlier, in the village of Zadubrivka, Chernivtsi region, the priests were kicked out of the church because they did not allow the fallen soldier to be eulogized.
